Funding Priorities
Northern Chautauqua Environmental Fund

Purpose:
The purpose of the fund is to increase public knowledge of environmental issues in Chautauqua County, particularly those relating to Lake Erie and its watershed.
 
Who is eligible to receive a grant from the Northern Chautauqua Environmental Fund?
Environmental organizations that are recognized as non-profit tax exempt under section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code are eligible to apply. Educational institutions and other public agencies (agencies of the state, county or local government) are eligible to apply.  
 
Individuals interested in applying for a grant must be affiliated with an eligible organization.
 
What types of activities will be funded?
A broad range of educational activities will be funded, including educational events, hands-on educational experiences, stipends for internships and lectures. Research projects are permitted, providing that the research is shared in a useful manner.
 
Priority will be given to applications involving Lake Erie or its watershed.
 
Grants will not be made for lobbying or political purposes.
 
What size grants will be made?
In most instances, grants will be no greater than $500.
 
How will grant applications be judged?
Applications will be judged by: the potential impact of the project (particularly lasting benefits); the number of individuals who will benefit; the efficient use of grant dollars; the use of partnerships; the promotion of volunteerism; and, the demonstrated ability of the organization to implement the project. No project is expected to address all of these areas.
 
When can an organization apply?
Applications will be accepted until January 10, 2011. Awards will be announced in February 2011.

Grant Application Form:  No

Application Deadlines:  3/1 of odd numbered years.

Application Process: 

  • Initial Approach - Call for guidelines or visit our website.
  • A letter of inquiry must be submitted.

     

Primary Funding Focus:  Program Interests - Projects should be of a nature that encourages citizen participation and, when completed, will reflect community pride.

Fiscal Year/Total Grants:  $1,746 - 12/31/09

Range of Grant Award:  $100 - $1,500

Geographic Area Served:  Northern Chautauqua County

Eligibility:  Community based not-for-profit organization

Limitations:  1:1 matching with money, supplies, volunteer hours etc.

Our Mission

The NCCF provides grants and support to a wide variety of charitable organizations.  We are structured to support the most pressing needs in the community today and, as these needs change, so will our funding focus.  In addition, we identify current and emerging issues, stimulate resources to address those needs and help our community prepare for the future.

About Us

The NCCF is a not-for-profit, 501 c(3)  organization that builds permanent funds to benefit the charitable needs of our community. Established in 1986, the NCCF holds over $16 million in permanent funds, which allow us to distribute over $900,000 annually in grants and scholarships for the betterment of the northern Chautauqua community.  These funds have been created through contributions from community minded individuals, businesses and not-for-profit organizations.

Letter of Interest Deadlines:  3/1, 9/1

Application Process:  Interested organizations are asked to submit a letter of interest, to include: a brief project description, the amount of funding requested and the number of people who will be impacted by the project.  (Electronic submissions are encouraged.) NCCF will notify organizations who will be requested to submit a full application.

Primary Funding Focus:  Priority will be given to applications that address immediate and essential community needs and projects with the greatest community impact.

Types of Support - Equipment, program development, building renovations, and matching challenge support.

Community Grants Program:  Fiscal Year/Total Grants:  $65,109 - 12/31/2011

Range of Grant Award:   $5,000 maximum award

Geographic Area:  Northern Chautauqua County

Eligibility: 501 (c) 3 status

Limitations:  No ongoing operating expenses, book publication or conference costs. Only education and religious programs benefitting the whole community. Generally, capital campaigns are not funded.
